Summer House I
Located in rural Norfolk, Summer House I creates an alternative approach to the traditional garden room concept.
The structural frame is connected using traditional framing techniques, all fully exposed, creating a sense of purity and simplicity.
Process
Concept
The idea has been derived from simple principles of construction. Not inspirited by a particular style but by mechanisms to construct from a simple set of basic construction elements — Beams, Posts and Rafters. These simple forms are connected using traditional jointing techniques, allowing the structure to exist in its present form but also to be dismantled and re-used.
Materials
The materials have been selected to ensure longevity of the structure. With the main structural components as Douglas Fir with wall and roof components from corrugated metal and polycarbonate sheeting. The combination of these materials creates a design which is natural but also functional for long-term use. The clear sheeting allows light to permeate into the plan and also allows for a high level of UV light for growing plants.
